On October 21, 2021, Halyna Hutchins was shot and killed at the Bonanza Creek Ranch while helping film the Western movie "Rust" due to a firearm used in the movie being loaded with live ammunition. That weapon was possessed by actor Alec Baldwin.
Baldwin does admit that the gun was pointed at Hutchins for the purpose of assisting in setting up the next sequence in the filming. Baldwin has denied pulling the trigger of the weapon and has claimed in multiple interviews that the gun fired on its own. Forensic analysis of the firearm reveals it to have been properly functioning.
Baldwin faces two counts of Involuntary Manslaughter and a maximum sentence of 18 months in prison.
