Red flag answers are 'because my parents told me to'. You want someone who has a passion for what they do.
3. What makes you different from all the other divorce lawyers in this community? I love this question because again, it gives you a lot of insight into how much this lawyer knows about their local legal community, their competitors, and their answer might provide you with something you find incredibly valuable.
4. Do you consider yourself more of a negotiator and deal maker or a litigator or a trial attorney? And additionally, why do you think you're the right kind of lawyer for my particular situation? Since most cases settle before going to trial, it's important to know if this lawyer you're considering is skilled or even interested in negotiating settlements. If they aren't, you stand a good chance of your case going to an incredibly expensive trial.
5. What guarantees can you and your firm provide me regarding my case? This is a fantastic question because most lawyers will not guarantee anything, especially in divorce work. If you ask this question and you get a well thought out list of at least a couple of guarantees, you're talking with a lawyer who knows their business, knows their clients, and knows what customer service is all about.
