The Family Advocate helps parties who are going through a divorce to finalize arrangements regarding their child. For example, custody, maintenance and well being of the child will be evaluated. The Family Advocate will look what is in the best interests of the child and makes a recommendation to the South African High Court with regard to these issues.
The Family Counsellor (or social worker) will interview you to look at your personal circumstances and the background.
Important to note that the Family Advocate is a neutral person and cannot act as the legal representative for either party in the divorce.
