A former South Madison Community School Corporation guidance counselor has reached a settlement with the school district following her termination in early 2023.
Attorneys representing Kathy McCord say her lawsuit against the school corporation was settled Wednesday, April 15, with the school district agreeing to pay $195,000 in damages, attorneys' fees and other costs.
McCord filed the lawsuit in May 2023 after the school board voted unanimously to fire her in March. In December 2022, McCord — who at the time was a guidance counselor for Pendleton Heights High School — shared documents about the district's gender support plan with a publication with links to The Heritage Foundation, a conservative think tank.
